In honor of Earth Day, this month a good time to consider how we as individuals can do our part to protect the Earth. There are a few ways we can change our diet to better our health while also protecting the environment.
- Eat Local
- Consider shopping your local farmers' markets for some home-grown foods. By doing this, we reduce carbon emissions from transporting produce across the country or even internationally. It’s a win for the local farmers and the environment.

- Buy What’s in Season
- Seasonal fruits and vegetables have more flavor & nutrients, and are usually less expensive. This time of year is perfect for strawberries, peaches, and yellow squash. See the website below for the USDA's Seasonal Produce Guide
- Eat More Plants
- A vegetarian diet certainly isn’t necessary, but it may be a good idea to consider lowering how much meat you eat, while at the same time eating more plants. There are plenty plant-based protein sources such as nuts, beans, and lentils to name a few. This is a great way to help the planet and also improve your health!
