“I just love him. I love his energy.” These are the happy words of Christine Labat when talking about her family’s experience with Lane pediatrician, Dr. Bikal Sapkota. Christine’s daughter, Sophia, was born at Lane Regional Medical Center in September, however before she was born, the Labats had not yet decided on a pediatrician; that decision quickly became an easy one.
After Sophia was born, Dr. Sapkota performed her evaluation. It was during this time that he discovered a condition that is typically difficult to notice. “He caught something the day she was born. He was very thorough. Even the other doctor that was there was impressed because it was such a hard thing to notice,” remembers Christina. It was this attention to detail, expertise, and focus that made selecting Sophia’s pediatrician a clear choice. “I knew my baby was going to be in the best hands possible. So, we chose him.”
Upon the discovery of Sophia’s condition, Dr. Sapkota referred her to a specialist, and it has been resolved. “He’s been absolutely amazing. I love how he remembers us.” Beyond the initial diagnosis, on a follow-up Dr. Sapkota noticed that her bellybutton wasn’t healing correctly. He did a small procedure in the office to correct it. She was also very thin when she was born. “It was difficult to get her to start gaining weight; now she’s very healthy. He helped me to understand the different methods to help me make sure that my baby was getting everything that she needed,” remarks Christina. “His office and his staff are hands down the best.”
While Christine’s oldest child was seeing a pediatrician in Baton Rouge, living in Slaughter made that an inconvenient option. That, combined with Dr. Sapkota’s thoroughness and care has made transitioning to Lane Pediatrics a great experience. “I love his energy, his thoroughness, and how he sits down and explains things to me. He doesn’t use big, fancy words; he gives it to you straight and explains what we need to do to get things fixed.”
Dr Sapkota’s expertise lies in providing compassionate and nurturing care to children including neonatal care, performing examinations and evaluations to assess patient growth and development, and treating children with both minor illness and chronic health issues.
