Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Lane Regional Medical Center are now offering computed tomography (CT) lung cancer screenings for patients who meet the criteria. These screenings are vital in detecting lung cancer in its early stages.
Screening criteria include the following:
- Age 55+
- Smoked an average of one or more packs of cigarettes a day for 30 years
- Current smoker or quit within the last 15 years
The exam may be covered by most major insurances and/or Medicare. For those who do not have insurance, private pay of $300 is accepted.
CIS is designated as a lung cancer screening center by the American College of Radiology.
Risk factors of lung cancer include: smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke, radon gas or asbestos, and a family history of lung cancer.
