Charlie Lee Massey, 86, a resident of Zachary, LA, died on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home. He was retired, after working for over 37 years for Lane Regional Medical Center and 25 years as one of the owners and operators of Massey and Mizell Construction.
There will be a visitation at the First Baptist Church of Zachary on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and then on Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 9:00 am until funeral services at 11:00 am, conducted by Dr. Wayne Barnes and Dr. Reggie Bridges. Burial will be at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita Massey; three daughters, Donna Meriwether and husband Lester of Ft. Worth, TX; Jená Love and husband Jerry of Pineville, LA; Vicki Lambert and husband Daniel of Kalispell, MT; ten grandchildren: Leslie Brazier, Carole Meriwether, Kathy Davidson, Amanda Dowling, Sandi Lowder, Kara Love, M’Kayla Scriber, David Love, Daniel Lambert, and Adrianna Palmer; and twelve great-grandchildren: Olivia Brazier, Judah, Joel, and Jack Davidson, Josiah, Hannah, Sarah, and Isaiah Dowling, Jewels and Shiloh Lowder, Wayland Scriber, and Derek Lambert.
He is also survived by many beloved extended family members, including former exchange students from Norway and Germany, and countless friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrol and Maude Massey; two sisters, Edna Earl White and Lydia White; and two brothers Carrol M. Massey Jr. and Paul Ray Massey.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Zachary for over 60 years. He was also an active member of the Zachary Rotary Club and a previous member of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce, serving as President of each organization. He was proud to have been selected at the 2004 Zachary Citizen of the Year. He was a member of the Louisiana Hospital Association.
He loved to travel and participated in numerous mission trips throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the team of sitters who cared for him over the last fifteen months.
