Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. After working 15 years as a paramedic in south Louisiana, he completed his medical education at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
He began his postgraduate medical training in internal medicine at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He then completed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, where he was also invited to serve for an additional year as chief cardiovascular fellow/interventional fellow.
Dr. Thompson is board certified in cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular computed tomography. In 1990, he was awarded the MBB Golden Hour Award, an international award of excellence for an aeromedical crew. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and Louisiana State Medical Society.
In 2007, Dr. Thompson joined the Cardiovascular Institute of the South team as an interventional cardiologist. In addition to providing general cardiovascular disease care, he has a special interest in syncope and cardiac electrophysiology.
